Immediate WrestleMania Thoughts (Night One)

Also known as CoronaMania 2. Here we go!

A very impressive (and different) opening to the show, which only helped to build hype and excitement. I dug it. Not sure how I felt about the Jack Sparrow impersonator back for a second year, though..

The rain delay aspect kind of sucks, but all you can do is laugh about it. Sadly, this weather would have been the PERFECT environment for an Undertaker match.

Unfortunately, the 30-minute delay dampened a bit of the excitement for Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley, but only somewhat. Lashley looked great here, really looking the part of a champion and of course, McIntyre has been in that realm for a year now. Definitely a surprising finish, but I’m not mad at it. Great choice for an opener.

The Women’s Tag Team Turmoil Match was okay.... nothing spectacular, but decent. A few glitches here and there. Mandy Rose had a WrestleMania moment; unfortunately it was a “Ultimo Dragon at WrestleMania XX entrance” moment. But still.

Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins started kind of slow (or at least, they didn't have perfect chemistry) but that course-corrected quickly enough. Hell of a match, and a fantastic showcase for Cesaro here.

Just in case anyone's interested, I am so far 0 for 3 in my Mania picks. The Big Rybowski at least called Tamina and Natalya correctly.

The New Day vs. AJ Styles & Omos is match of the night so far, and it's because it followed an incredible story. Just solid psychology and a believable story. Loved this one, even though I'm now 0 for 4. Damn.

Braun Strowman vs. Shane McMahon was also tons of fun, right from the outset, and told a rock-solid story the whole time. I know people dumped on this feud (as did I), but if the end goal was to elevate Strowman.... I think they accomplished that here. And I'm now 1 for 5 - my first correct pick of the evening!!!

Bad Bunny & Damien Priest vs. The Miz & John Morrison continued along the theme of fun, better than expected matches. Not sure why Bad Bunny had the best entrance in WrestleMania history... but here we are. While obviously well-choreographed, it was enjoyable to see and honestly not a waste of time at all. Two for six in my picks now!

Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks was a really solid match, with the only knock being it may have overstayed its welcome. Still, Belair looked like a legit star in the air, and Banks was absolutely the right person to carry her to a huge main event. A feel good moment to end what was mostly a feel good show. On to night two!
