WWE Retro figures are the spiritual successor to the WWF Hasbro figures of the 1990s. Small, chunky and packed with "action moves," Mattel introduced the line in 2018, creating a nostalgia fix for long-time collectors, while also creating something fun for newer figure collectors.
A menu of reviews for each series in the collection can be found at the bottom of this page. For now, let's take a closer look at what Mattel has been calling the Retro Tag Team 2-Pack, sold exclusively through Ringside Collectibles.
The resurrected Retro lines that have been coming out since January 2022 have been phenomenal, including sets themed for the nWo and D-Generation X. Inside the box are two separate packages, each with two figures and resealable card-backs.
In the first 2-pack of The Bloodline, we begin with the tag team of Jimmy and Jey Uso. These are both "jumper" figures with very similar physiques with one hand up to acknowledge Roman Reigns. The only differences (besides their head sculpts) are slight: Jimmy is wearing a Bloodline baseball cap, while Jey has tape on one his hands and a red elbow pad. Both figures come with removable "We The Ones" cloth goods T-shirts - an unusual feature for Retro figures to have.
Conversely, Solo Sikoa's "We The Ones" shirt is not removable and is actually part of the mold. The figure is fairly accurate to the enforcer of The Bloodline, including a great head scan and accurate physique. Solo can perform the body slam, similar to John Cena, Kevin Owens, Braun Strowman and many other WWE Retro figures.
Joining Solo in his two-pack is Roman Reigns. This is a definite improvement over Roman's first WWE Retro figure from Series One. Shirtless and without his "Shield" style vest, this figure has black pants and shoes, as well as one red glove that can help him deliver the "Superman Punch."
This Retro set contains the first "current roster" WWE stars in many years, and it's refreshing to know that Mattel is still up for putting modern competitors in Retro format, not just legends.
