This is the twelfth year we've compiled a list looking back at the year that was (please see here for the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 versions). So how did 2025 stack up?
Solidly under the leadership of TKO, WWE made several big business moves that should continue to keep the world's largest wrestling company profitable for many years to come. By the same token, the promotion has made it more expensive than ever to be a wrestling fan, charging record-high amounts for tickets, streaming rights and much more. In the ring, they provided a solid product, shining on the spotlight on new stars, returning stars, a handful of veterans, and one superstar who said his final farewell.
Of course, WWE wasn't the only promotion that had an eventful year. AEW began rehabilitating its product from recent years, focusing on top matches and meaningful storylines, while expanding its audience through HBO Max. And TNA, which has for years been rumored to be on its last legs, made several strategic moves to secure its own future.
Of course
In counting down the Top 50 Wrestling Headlines of 2025, Wrestling Merchandise and Memories considered the following criteria:
-
Was the event unique to this year? Or does it happen quite frequently?
-
What were the overall ramifications for said event?
-
Did the development have a profound impact on how this wrestler or promotion did business?
-
Did this development receive any mainstream publicity outside of the wrestling community?
When possible, we have tried to add a date to each development. Some of them combine more than one event, and some lump a string of developments to demonstrate an overall trend.
