Top 50 Wrestling Headlines of 2024.png

This is the eleventh year we've compiled a list looking back at the year that was (please see here for the 20142015, 2016, 20172018, 20192020, 202,  2022 and 2023 versions). So how did 2024 stack up?

WWE ushered in what many are calling the "renaissance era," featuring record ticket sales, consistently high television ratings and a slew of new broadcasting agreements. While not all the attention was of a positive nature, WWE reached levels of popularity it hadn't experience since the Attitude Era.

AEW began cooling down somewhat, seeing a reversal in the momentum it had been accumulating over its first five years. Having said that, the challenger promotion did score several highlights, including the signing of top talents, the emergence of new stars and the retirement of an Icon.

Some other leagues also made headlines, including TNA (which was Impact Wrestling in 2023), New Japan Pro Wrestling, Major League Wrestling and Bloodsport.

In counting down the Top 50 Wrestling Headlines of 2024, Wrestling Merchandise and Memories considered the following criteria:

  • Was the event unique to this year? Or does it happen quite frequently?

  • What were the overall ramifications for said event?

  • Did the development have a profound impact on how this wrestler or promotion did business?

  • Did this development receive any mainstream publicity outside of the wrestling community?

When possible, we have tried to add a date to each development. Some of them combine more than one event, and some lump a string of developments to demonstrate an overall trend.
