We can dream, can't we?
Writing this in early May of 2022, none of the matches for this year's SummerSlam have been booked, or even rumored yet. But now's as good a time as any to begin predicting what The Biggest Party Of The Summer could look like...
Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns
Despite being in WWE for 20 years, Randy Orton has arguably never been as popular as he is today. While at some of that can be attributed to his partnership with Riddle, the world may be ready to see him chase his 15th world title, and what better venue than at SummerSlam?
For Roman Reigns, Orton is likely his biggest challenge left in WWE outside of possibly Cody Rhodes and (if he returns for next year's WrestleMania) The Rock. So putting up really big stakes at one of WWE's signature events of the year makes a ton of sense. Of note: these two last clashed at SummerSlam 2014... so there's some additional backstory here.
Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey vs. Seth Freakin' Rollins and Becky Lynch
Granted... this one may need a bit of creative build-up. But assuming Brock Lesnar isn't in the title picture come SummerSlam, he'd need a really compelling match to be part of. How about the first-ever pairing with fellow UFC legend Ronda Rousey? And assuming those two would team up, they'd need a pair of heels worthy of challenging them... and it would be hard to pick a more evil duo in the company today than the husband-and-wife tandem of Seth Freakin' Rollins and Big Time Becky Lynch.
Cody Rhodes vs. Edge
Presumably, Cody's road (Rhodes?) to the WWE Championship could be a lengthy one to maximize its effect, meaning The American Nightmare needs someone big to play off of. Why not Edge, who is in the midst of a career revitalization right now with his pre-WrestleMania heel turn? This one could be an all-time classic... not to mention the promos that could be done along the way by both parties.
Bianca Belair vs. Bayley
Given SummerSlam is in Nashville, Tennessee this year, it would make sense to shine a spotlight on home-state hero Bianca Belair, particularly if she is still Raw Women's Champion by then. While Belair has faced Bayley in the past (last summer, in fact), her scheduled return by this time would make it a fresh and welcome matchup to pretty much anyone watching.
Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio
While there are (currently) no signs for a rift between father and son, they have teased it before (as recently as this year's Royal Rumble). With SummerSlam in need of big, box office matches, and with both Rey and Dominik having history at this particular event... this match could potentially have far more impact at SummerSlam than anywhere else on the wrestling calendar.
